Our people

Who is the main Place2Be worker in school?
In each school, we employ a School Project Manager (SPM) who works with a team of Place2Be Volunteer Counsellors to deliver our services. Our SPMs are qualified, experienced clinicians and it’s their responsibility to assess the children and allocate counsellors accordingly. The SPM also establishes good working relationships with the Head teacher and other school staff members, as well as with agency staff based in, or regularly visiting the school.

Who are the Place2Be Volunteer Counsellors?
Our counsellors are either part or fully qualified professionals or members of the local community who have completed our accredited Place2Train programme for counsellors. They work under the full supervision of our School Project Managers.

Who else works in the school?
Schools are organised into local clusters known as ‘Hubs’. Each Hub is overseen by a local Hub Manager, who plays a direct role in raising our profile locally in order to secure more funding and attract volunteers. The Hub Manager also oversees the day-to-day management of each school project. In addition, some of our Hubs have Parent Workers who offer one-to-one counselling and group work sessions to parents and carers.

Are The Place2Be staff and volunteers police-checked?
Yes. All staff and The Place2Be Counsellors must provide an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check before they can work in a school. In addition, The Place2Be has other requirements which must be satisfied before anyone is allowed into the school.

How does The Place2Be encourage diversity in the work place?
Recruitment advertisements are placed in the national, local and community press to attract applicants from all sectors of the community.
