What is the overall theoretical orientation of The Place2Be?
We adopt an integrative approach and there are people working with us from a number of different backgrounds and orientations. If you need a supervisor from a specific background for training purposes, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Please clarify any specific supervision requirements on the application form.
Back to top Will the hours count towards Accreditation?
The British Association of Counsellling & Psychotherapy (BACP) accepts 100% of child hours for the purpose of accreditation and United Kingdon Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP ) accepts 25%. For information on other accrediting bodies, please contact them directly.
Back to topDo I have to attend the training offered?
You must attend the two-day Volunteer Introductory Workshop to ensure that you are fully prepared to begin working with children. The one-day modules are optional, and we encourage volunteers to attend as many of these workshops as possible to inform and develop your practice. Attendance certificates are available for your Continuing Professional Development records. To see the full range of workshops available to Volunteers,

development@theplace2be.org.uk Back to top Will you pay my travel expenses?
Regrettably, we do not have funds to reimburse travel expenses. However, a Volunteer Counselling placement with The Place2Be is recognised as a unique professional opportunity and of considerable value both to trainees and to qualified practitioners. We offer clinical supervision, a wide range of experiential training and CRB disclosure at no cost to the volunteer. Furthermore, we provide a highly supported experience of working with children with the potential for professional and career development opportunities. In our experience, the benefits more than compensate for the expenses incurred during the placement.
Back to top Do I need to arrange my own insurance?
Place2Be Volunteer Counsellors are fully covered by our professional indemnity insurance policy.

The Place2Be regularly runs a specialist training course for people with no previous counselling experience. This Foundation Course in Counselling Primary Aged Children, which is accredited by the Open College Network OCN to level 3, provides a route into volunteering with us, the chance to develop a career in childcare and the gateway to further counselling qualifications, in particular The Place2Be's Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Counselling Children in Schools.
